Tips to organizing your closet.

Do you ever wake up and think, “I can’t find anything to wear”? Check out our tips for organizing your closet so you can look your best each day with minimum decision making required.

Follow our tips below and take a day to completely revamp and organize your closet. You’ll feel much better you did!

Closet Cleansing: If you don’t love it, don’t pack it. On vacation, you look your best because you bring your newest and nicest outfits, leaving the backups at home. Thin your closet according to the same principle. Aim to remove 50 percent of items taking up space.

Group Clothing Together: Create 3 piles: dump, donate and keep. The “keep” pile should not consist of clothing that is simply wearable, but clothing that makes you look your best. If you haven’t worn an item in six months, donate or dump accordingly.

Unused Items Go Elsewhere: Store seasonal items or articles of clothing that hold sentimental value in a guest room closet or another part of the house. If you have a larger closet, separate your clothes by season. If you have a tall closet with several rows of hanging rods, place the current season’s clothes on the lowest level, and move out-of-season clothes up to the tallest rods.

Arrange Your Closet Like A Boutique: Structure your closet to resemble a boutique, with fewer items and plenty of space between them, as opposed to the cluttered racks of a discount outlet.

Create Event Groupings: Work clothing in one area, going out items — such as sexy tops or dresses — in another, athletic wear in a third, and so on.

Hang Outfits Together: Consider hanging different components of outfits together, as opposed to hanging all of your tops in one space, your pants in another, etc. To assemble an outfit, hang the top next to the skirt and place your pumps beneath it. This way, the outfit as a whole is ready to wear.

Better Hangers, Better Quality: Invest in quality wood, padded or plastic hangers — as opposed to using the skimpy wire ones from the dry cleaner. Also be sure to hang all garments facing the same direction (and with the hangers all hooked the same way).

Organize Accessories: Hang scarves on a hanger or scarf rack, and belts and ties on hangers or racks. Use a shoe rack to keep shoes organized. Recycle old shoe boxes that clutter the floor. (You don’t need to keep every pair of shoes in your closet all year long, either!)

Make A Place For Everything: Place baskets in your closet for laundry and dry cleaning. Install hooks on the closet wall to hang up hats, handbags and tote bags. Store clothes that you want to save in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag. These bags compress the clothing, making it much easier to fit under the bed or in a closet. Save only the clothes that you think will be worn!

Get your garage uncluttered with some tips from The Lawhead Team.

If you have lived in your home for a while, your garage is probably pretty cluttered with things you have collected over the years.

We would like to share some helpful tips on how to use stuff around the house to get those small items in your garage fully organized. Check them out, you’ll be surprised at some of the items you can use to organize your garage and help you learn how to store hardware so you can actually find it.

Muffin tins are perfect for small parts – Put those neglected muffin tins to work holding small fasteners, electrical parts and more. Screw together a tote from three pieces of 1/2-in.-thick plywood cut to fit the width and height of your trays. Screw plywood strips on the inside to act as drawer runners for the tins and glue or screw on a thin plywood back.

Steel boxes keep parts from rusting – For rust-free storage of expensive air nailer fasteners, use steel ammunition boxes from an army surplus store. They have a watertight seal to help prevent corrosion and they’re cheap (about $5). Perfect for in the garage!

Hang up shower curtain rings – Old-fashioned shower curtain rings ($2 for a 12-pack at a home center) can organize and conveniently display nuts and washers on your pegboard. Load up the rings, add a tape label, and hang them near the wrenches. You can also toss them in a nail apron for on-the-go repairs.

Mount plastic jars under shelves – Plastic peanut butter jars work better for storage than glass baby food jars because they hold a lot more hardware and won’t smash into slivers if you drop one. Attach the lids of 28-oz. jars under a shelf with two screws (so the lid can’t spin when you loosen the jar) and screw on the loaded jar. For quick access, cut away half of a 64-oz. peanut butter jar with a sharp utility knife, leaving the neck intact, then attach the lid and jar to the side of a cabinet.

Use a magnetic strip, glue and washers – Want a handy storage roost for all the little screws, earplugs, nuts and washers in your shop? Pick up a package of Glad 4-oz. cups, a magnetic strip, several 7/16-in. washers and a tube of E6000 glue. Apply glue to the cup’s concave bottom, press in a washer flush with the bottom rim and let the glue set for 24 hours.

Install muffin tins under shelves – Garage work surface cluttered with miscellaneous nails, screws, hardware, whatever? Clean it up and still keep that stuff at your fingertips. Attach a muffin tin under a shelf with a single 1/4-in. x 1-1/2-in. flat head machine screw. The tin pivots out from beneath work surfaces to organize and serve up any little doodad you frequently use. And you store all that little stuff without using up a single square inch of workspace.

Build a carrying case from scrap 1/2-in. and 1/4-in. plywood.

Organize your bathroom with our helpful tips.

Have you ever gotten ready in the morning and looked at your bathroom counter and noticed all the clutter? Or maybe you were searching for lotion and opened the cabinet and closed it back up because it would take too much time to search through all the mess under there.

Staying organized can add major ease to life’s day to day tasks. If you are free of clutter and mess, it is easier to find things and get going on your day. The Lawhead Team would like to share some helpful tips to getting your bathroom organized and keeping it that way!

Check out our quick tips to organizing your bathroom:

Take Advantage Of Over The Toilet Space – Even in small bathrooms there’s space for organization; you just have to know where to look. Over the toilet bath furniture is a great place to put extra toilet paper, toiletries and even towels. If you don’t keep the toilet seat down, opt for a unit with cabinets or closed shelving. You can find attractive shelving at major home stores, usually for less than $100.

Creative Towel Storage – If your towel rack isn’t big enough to hang the family’s towels, add hooks to the bathroom. Towel hooks are inexpensive, easy to mount and create a space for each member of the family to hang their towel. No more fighting over whose is whose, plus your bathroom floor will remain dry, not damp.

Re-organize Your Medicine Cabinet – Make your medicine cabinet a repository of things you need and use regularly, which means chucking any outdated medicines and relocating excess to another location. Keep like items in their own labeled storage bins underneath the sink or in the linen closet. When you need to use something, slide the whole container out for easy access. You might choose to move medicines into the kitchen because moisture can ruin them. By creating “active” storage in your medicine cabinet you’ll minimize time spent in the bathroom, giving you more time to organize another space in the house.

Organize Hair Product Clutter – Gels, sprays, curlers, combs and hair dryers take up a lot of space in the bathroom. For quick organization, buy a plastic tub for under the sink and load it up with your supplies. As you place them in the tub, evaluate whether you use the product often. If not, donate it to a friend or to charity. When you fix your hair, the whole tub can be taken out and put away without creating a mess.

Makeup Tray Organizer – Drawers in the bathroom tend to be catchalls for lots of different containers, most of which badly organize their contents. An expandable cosmetic drawer organizer fits in a shallow drawer and takes the place of bulky cosmetic bags. Different size compartments will organize lipstick, blush and eye shadow so you never have to root around to find what you’re looking for. As you organize your makeup, be sure to throw away anything that smells or is expired. Old makeup contains bacteria that can irritate your skin.

The Shower Caddy – It’s your best friend when you’re in the shower, but is it working for you? Shower caddies that are too small or too large can be a pain, both for cleaning you and your shower. There are plenty of options: from over the shower head and suction shelves to corner caddies. If you don’t have enough room, one solution is to pare down your toiletries. How many bottles of shampoo do you really need? If you have too much, consider downsizing so you don’t feel like you have to fill up the extra space.

Add Style and Function With Apothecary Jars – If you have a lot of counter space, and don’t mind leaving things out in the open, invest in some stylish apothecary jars to hold necessities. Cotton swabs, soap and bath salts look great in clear glass containers. These are especially handy when guests use your bathroom because they can help themselves without snooping in your cabinets.
